The Leicester Codex, also known as the Hammer Codex, is a 72-page manuscript in which Leonardo da Vinci investigates natural phenomena such as the motion of water, erosion, the refraction of light and the brightness of the moon. Written between 1506 and 1510, the codex contains revolutionary insights, such as the hypothesis that moonlight is a reflection of sunlight and a detailed explanation of the water cycle. This manuscript is an extraordinary testimony to Leonardo’s scientific method, based on observation and experiment.
